A shared model for data, people, applications and AI.

Your information.
Connected.

AToM⁴ connects your data through a model that your team, applications and AI tools can use.

Whatever field you work in, start with records, their properties and their relationships. Your team works with this connected information in a web environment. Build applications and dedicated AI interfaces on that foundation. Explore the model and see how projects use it.

The platform

One environment.
Your data and workflows.

AToM⁴ is a web database rooted in Topic Maps. Its universal data model helps you understand your domain. An ontology is a description of the record types, their properties and relationships in your domain. Your team and applications work with a shared structure that is easy to understand.

01

Model your domain

Define any relationship your domain needs, with your own types, participant roles and properties.

02

Work in context

Move from a record to related information and see how the pieces belong together.

03

Find what matters

Use searches, filters and structured queries to build useful views of your data.

04

Build dedicated websites

Create websites and portals for different audiences from the connected information your team manages in AToM.

Your infrastructure. Your data.

AToM can run on your own server, within your infrastructure. You keep your database and its data under your own control.

Applications & AI

Build with AI.
Keep the data connected.

AI can help you build an application quickly. AToM provides a shared foundation for its data. The model describes your data and its relationships. People, applications and AI can use prepared interfaces to work with the same structure. This structure is easy to understand. Other applications can build on this foundation.

Build applications on a shared foundation

Vibe coding means building an application by giving instructions to an AI tool. Give the tool the data model description and the prepared AToM interfaces. It can then build an application that works with this data. The applications use a consistent structure and share the database ontology. The ontology describes record types, their properties and relationships. Check the result against the requirements and the data model.

Connect AI to selected data and functions

MCP is a protocol for connecting AI tools to application data and functions. You can build a dedicated MCP interface for AToM. For each project, define which data and functions the AI tool can access.

Planned

Semantic search for CATOOL

Semantic search over publication records is planned for CATOOL. It would help users find information by similarity of meaning.

How it works

  1. Describe the data model for the AI tool.
  2. Configure an interface for the selected data and functions.
  3. Implement and check its access rules for the project.

Projects built on AToM

Different domains.
A shared foundation.

Each project defines its own model. From specialist workspaces to public websites, these projects put connected information to work.

AToM is the data foundation for all AION projects.

Legal information · Public website

Law for people

Connected legal information, made for people.

Built on AToM, Law for people (Czech: Zákony pro lidi) is the Czech Republic's most visited legal portal. It connects legislation and case law for professionals and the wider public.

  • Preserve structure. Legal texts are assembled from smaller parts in the database into readable documents.
  • Reveal context. Connect legislation and international treaties with related court decisions.
  • Open access. Read current legislation free of charge, with advanced tools available through Law for people Plus.

A dedicated public website turns a structured, connected information model into a service people use in everyday life.

AToM connects data structure, editorial work and applications. In legal systems, it helps teams work with regulations part by part. A fragment is the smallest individually addressable part of a legal text. AToM manages fragments, their hierarchy and their relationships. Its role differs from project to project.

  • Legal information system

    EPI.sk

AToM supports the data and editorial workflows behind EPI.sk. It turns promulgated legislation into linked fragments and manages their metadata. Editorial tools connect fragments when processing amendments. EPI.sk connects legislation with case law and EU law.

    More about EPI.sk

EPI.sk is an extensive legal information system. Slovak legislation forms its core. AToM manages this legislation in a fragment-based data model.

AToM is used to create the data and metadata of legislative collections. The input is the promulgated version of a regulation. The output is a linked text organised into a hierarchy of fragments.

Editorial tools connect fragments when processing amendments. EPI.sk also includes Czech and Slovak case law, EU law and Czech legislation. These sources are connected.

AToM supports several layers of the editorial system. It also supports parts of the presentation layer. These include search, user management and commercial processes. AToM also supports the service's business model.

  • Content management

    PPVS.cz

AToM manages the content of PPVS.cz. The website connects to Law for people, which provides the presentation of legal regulations.

    More about PPVS.cz

AToM manages the content of PPVS.cz. PPVS.cz presents this content through a modern website.

The service connects to Law for people. Law for people provides the presentation of legal regulations.

  • Internal editorial workflow

    e-Sbírka — Internal editorial workflow

AToM forms part of the internal editorial system for e-Sbírka. It supports work with legal text fragments. The workflow takes a promulgated regulation as input and produces the regulation in the e-Sbírka data model.

    More about the e-Sbírka workflow

AToM forms part of the internal editorial system for e-Sbírka. It supports work with a fragment-based data model.

The input is the promulgated version of a regulation. The output is the regulation processed in the e-Sbírka data model.

Rooted in Topic Maps

Meaning is part
of the model.

AToM stands for AION Topic Maps. Information becomes more useful when you can see what it is about, how subjects relate, and where to find the resources that describe them.

AToM⁴ builds on the principles of Topic Maps: subjects, associations and information resources. Your ontology defines the relationship types, participant roles and properties that give these connections meaning.

A closer look at the standard

The ISO/IEC 13250 family defines Topic Maps. Its data model describes topics, associations and occurrences, and how topic maps are interpreted and merged. AToM has developed a practical web database model from these roots.

01

Subjects

The people, publications, concepts or other things your information is about.

02

Relationships

Connections you define, with explicit participant roles and properties on the relationships themselves.

03

Information resources

The descriptions and sources that tell you more about a subject.

Built-in taxonomies and hierarchies

Classify information from several perspectives and preserve the structure of complex publications.

Group Tree

Built-in multidimensional taxonomies

Classify the same record from different perspectives, with hierarchical categories and single or multiple choices within each branch.

The platform’s evolution

Three generations.
One connected idea.

From a web database with Topic Maps roots to today’s connected workspaces, AToM builds on years of practical use.

Main periods of development and use

  1. 2010–2015

    AToM2

    2D · Information on a plane

Establishing a universal web database, rooted in Topic Maps, for modelling subjects, properties and relationships.

  2. 2016–2023

    AToM3

    3D · Relationships with depth

Richer properties on associations give relationships their own detail, as the shared environment develops across legal information, indexing and knowledge projects.

  3. 2024–today

    AToM4

    4D · Information in motion

Building on AToM³ with a modern web interface and specialist workspaces, including CATOOL for multilingual publication metadata.

If the superscripts were dimensions, AToM² would lay information out, AToM³ would give relationships depth, and AToM⁴ would set the whole picture in motion. No special glasses required.
